A Beginner’s Guide To Skincare | Tips For Clear Skin

Skincare isn’t something that you can just do when you have bad skin to fix it. It’s an ongoing process, it never ends. It’s all about maintaining that consistency of care. And no that definitely does not mean that you need to have a 21 step skincare routine with lasers and weird grooming tools but you need at least a basic consistent skincare routine that will clean, hydrate, and maintain your skin looking young, smooth, soft, and clear.

More people are now pursuing healthier, younger-looking skin, making it a great time for people to evaluate their skin care routine and learn more about how to take care of their body’s largest organ.

Here are the steps to develop an effective skincare routine:

1. Figure Out Your Skin Type

Everyone has different skin types and before you ever buy any product, you must identify and understand your skin type:
  • Sensitive skin may sting or burn after product use
  • Normal skin is clear and not sensitive
  • Dry skin is flaky, itchy, or rough
  • Oily skin is shiny and greasy
  • Combination skin is dry in some areas and oily in others
Understanding your skin type will help you learn how to take care of your skin and select skin care products that are right for you.

2. Improve Your Diet

Without the right diet, Your skin just isn’t going to improve. Start paying attention to when you get your pimples. What did you eat before getting that pimple and if there is a pattern, then change it to see if that helps and my guess is it’s going to help because your diet is a key part of how your body behaves in general.

3. Find The Right Products

To help you develop healthy skin care routines, dermatologists recommend the following tips: Find a good cleanser To get rid of impurities that accumulate on your skin.
Consider product labels and ingredients. The skincare products you choose will depend on your skin type. If you have acne-prone skin, look for cleansers and moisturizers that say “oil-free” or “non-comedogenic,” as these won’t clog your pores.
If you have sensitive skin, use mild, “fragrance-free” products, as products containing fragrances can leave skin feeling irritated and dry. However, beware of products labelled “unscented,” as many of these contain masking fragrances that can still irritate your skin.

4. Shaving Precautions

Watch your shaving technique. For some men, multi-blade razors can work too well or shave too closely to your skin. If you often experience razor bumps, razor burns, or ingrown hairs, use a single- or double-blade razor instead and do not stretch your skin taut while shaving. Before you shave, wet your skin and hair to soften it. Use moisturizing shaving cream and shave in the direction of hair growth. Rinse after each swipe of the razor, and change your blade after five to seven shaves to minimize irritation.

5. Cleanse Your Face Daily

Wash your face daily twice a day. Once in the morning before you start your day and once again at night Before you go to bed. And also wash your face after a sweaty exercise too. Because regular bar soap often contains harsh ingredients that can be drying to the skin, wash your face with a mild facial cleanser and lukewarm — not hot — water.
After you wash your face it will probably feel a little dry because you are cleansing all of the dirt but also a lot of oils on your skin are going to be gone. So the next step would be to rehydrate your skin by applying a good moisturiser.

6. Moisturise Your Skin

Moisturise your face daily. Moisturiser works by trapping water in your skin, which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and make your skin look brighter and younger. For the best results, apply moisturizer to your face and body immediately after bathing, showering or shaving while the skin is still damp.

7. Sunscreen is A Must!

Wear sunscreen whenever outdoors to help prevent sun damage that can lead to wrinkles, age spots and even skin cancer. Before going outdoors, apply sunscreen to all exposed areas of skin, including your scalp, ears, neck and lips. For best protection, use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and re-apply every four hours or immediately after swimming or sweating. You can also protect your skin by seeking shade and wearing sun-protective clothing, such as a lightweight and long-sleeved shirt, pants, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses with UV protection, when possible.

8. Exfoliate 1-2 Times A Week

Exfoliating your face once or twice a week is very important. Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells and impurities. There are a few ways to do this. You can use either a chemical exfoliant or a physical exfoliant. Chemical exfoliants tend to be the best option for ridding the skin of dirt and grime without irritating your skin. You can also use a physical exfoliant if you don’t have sensitive skin.

9. Don't Pop Your Pimples!

I know you really wanna pop that pimple but keep your hands and fingers off your face as much as possible especially with what’s happening out there. Instead of popping that pimple just use a face wash to cleanse that area really well and wait until your body naturally takes care of it. Because when you pop a pimple basically what you are doing is you’re putting a small tear on your skin and sometimes that tear is bigger than we want it to be and it becomes a permanent scar. So be really careful.

10. Regularly Check Your Skin

Check your skin regularly. New spots or moles that itch, bleed or change colour are often early warning signs of skin cancer. If you notice any suspicious spots, make an appointment to see a dermatologist. People over age 50 have a higher risk of developing Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, than the general population. However, when caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable.
